Lyle/Pacelli baseball blanks Schaeffer Academy 10-0 in home opener Tuesday

It was the home opener for the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team at Marcusen Park in Austin Tuesday as they hosted the Schaeffer Academy Lions in a Southeast Conference matchup, and Mac Nelson fired a shutout for LP with nine strikeouts, plus he was one of three Athletics with two hits as Lyle/Pacelli blanked the Lions 10-0 in five innings.

After a scoreless first inning, Lyle/Pacelli scored three in the second, three in the third and four in the fifth on their way to the win.  Nelson wound up going 2 for 4 with two RBI’s to help his own cause, Dane Schara was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Jack Klingfus provided a spark from the bottom half of the order as he went 2 for 3 from the No. 9 spot with a run knocked in and another scored, plus he stole two bases, Landon Meyer was 1 for 3 with two RBI’s and a run scored, Hunter VaDeer went 1 for 3 with a double, Jake Truckenmiller was 1 for 1 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, Logyn Brooks went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and Trey Anderson was also 1 for 3 with two runs knocked in and another scored as the Athletics rapped out 11 hits and stole 10 bases as a team in the game.

Mac Nelson pitched the complete-game shutout for the Athletics as he gave up no runs on three hits, striking out nine and walking four in helping to lift LP to 1-1 on a young season plagued by terrible weather thus far.
