Lyle/Pacelli baseball blanks Southland 5-0

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team traveled to Adams Tuesday to take on the Southland Rebels in a Southeast Conference matchup, and Cole Walter fired a complete-game two hit shutout, plus he went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run knocked in as the Athletics blanked the Rebels 5-0.

Walter fanned seven batters and walked only one in firing his complete game gem, and besides Walter’s two hits at the plate, Sam Nelsen, Jed Nelson, Jayden Lewis and Landon Meyer provided the other hits in the game for the Athletics, who scored three in the first and two in the fifth on their way to the win.  Alec Bissen and Nick Boe picked up the only hits for Southland, and Harrison Hannah, the first of four pitchers in the game for the Rebels was tagged with the loss as he pitched 2 1/3rd innings and gave up two runs, none earned on one hit, striking out two and walking two.

The win for Lyle/Pacelli, their seventh in their last eight games pushes their SEC mark to 14-2, and they are now 16-2 overall on the season.  With the loss, Southland falls to 10-3 in conference play and 12-5 overall.

Lyle/Pacelli is scheduled to finish the regular season at St. Clair Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., while Southland is scheduled to play a doubleheader at home versus Spring Grove, with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m.
