Lyle/Pacelli routs Mabel-Canton 18-0 in five innings Thursday
The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team entertained Southeast Conference foe Mabel-Canton at Marcusen Park in Austin Friday, and an Athletics squad that has been hitting on all cylinders so far this season was at it again Thursday as they sent 12 men to the plate in the third inning and scored eight runs on their way to an 18-0, five-inning victory.
LP tallied four runs in the 1st inning with the benefit of only one hit, that being a rare inside-the-park grand slam home run to center off the bat of Jed Nelson, and the Athletics added three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd courtesy of RBI singles from Cole Walter and Sam Nelsen, plus a RBI groundout from Jed Nelson. Lyle/Pacelli broke the game wide open with the eight run third on a two-RBI triple from Walter, a RBI double from Zach Bollingberg and RBI singles from Mac Nelson and Jayden Lewis, and they added three more runs in the fourth with a two RBI double from Sam Nelsen and a RBI single from Mac Nelson.
For the game, Cole Walter wound up going 2 for 2 with a triple, three RBI’ s and four runs scored, Jed Nelson was 1 for 3 with the inside-the-park grand slam homer and five RBI’s total, Zack Bollingberg was 1 for 1 with a double and four runs scored, Sam Nelsen went 1 for 3 with a triple, three runs knocked in and two runs scored, Mac Nelson was 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored, Jack Truckenmiller belted two doubles in three trips to the plate with a RBI and a run scored, Hunter Vadeer was 1 for 4 with a run scored and Jayden Lewis went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
Cole Walter was on the mound for LP and shut down the Cougars as he gave up no runs and only one hit, he struck out ten batters in the game, including seven in a row at one point, plus he only walked one batter.
Lyle/Pacelli moves to 6-0 on the season with the win, and the Athletics return to action next Monday in a doubleheader at Marcusen Park versus Schaeffer Academy, with the first game getting underway at 4:30 p.m.
