MCHS Austin and Albert Lea to celebrate significant milestone Monday

At a special event on Monday, June 14, Mayo Clinic Health System in Ausitn and Albert Lea will celebrate a significant milestone in the construction that has spanned both campuses over the past several years. That’s when these recently completed units will be unveiled to the community:

  • Medical and Surgical inpatient care units
  • Family Birth Center
  • Intensive Care Unit

In addition, community members will benefit from convenient visitor access and waiting areas.

The milestone virtual celebration will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will include a ribbon-tying ceremony, along with remarks from several Mayo Clinic Health System and community leaders. Video tours of the new Family Birth Center, and Medical and Surgical inpatient units, on the Austin campus also will be shown during the virtual event.

“These new spaces on the Austin campus represent Mayo Clinic Health System’s ongoing commitment to serving the needs of Albert Lea, Austin and surrounding communities through one hospital with two campuses,” says Robert Albright, M.D., regional vice president Mayo Clinic Health System southeast Minnesota. “They’re the culmination of a four-year, multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion project spanning the Albert Lea and Austin campuses. Both campuses underwent construction to expand capacity and services on each campus.”

To date, Mayo Clinic has invested more than $25 million in the facilities.

“The improvements bring to life the vision of a single hospital with two campuses. They provide families in Southeast Minnesota and northern Iowa with a full range of health care services across the Albert Lea and Austin campuses,” adds Albright.

Due to COVID precautions, in-person attendance at this indoor event is limited to a small number of invited guests.  The livestreamed broadcast will begin at 3:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
