MDH records two more COVID-19 related deaths in Mower County Thursday, 55 additional cases for cumulative total of 8,307

The Minnesota Department of Health reported Thursday that Mower County has recorded its 57th and 58th COVID-19 related deaths, one in an individual 65-69 years of age, the other in an individual 70-74 years of age.  They added that the county also recorded 8,021 confirmed and 286 probable COVID-19 cases Thursday for a cumulative total of 8,307, a rise of 55 from Wednesday.  Pam Kellogg, Division Manager with Mower County Health and Human Services reported that there are approximately 450 active cases in the county, but she added that the actual number could be much higher due to home testing and cases not being reported to the Department of Health.  Kellogg also noted that the omicron variant of the virus is now the dominant strain in the county. 

Olmsted County recorded 25,593 cumulative cases Thursday, a spike of 219 from Wednesday, Steele County reported 7,727 cumulative cases Thursday, up 53 from Wednesday and Freeborn County confirmed 6,575 cumulative COVID-19 cases Thursday, a jump of 88 from Wednesday.  Dodge County now has 4,039 cumulative cases, up 23 from Wednesday and Fillmore County recorded 3,491 cumulative COVID-19 cases Thursday, up 12 from Wednesday.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 6,936 positive COVID-19 tests in the state Thursday for a cumulative total of 1,038,731, and they added that 62 additional COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in the state from Wednesday to Thursday for a cumulative total of 10,733 since the onset of the pandemic.  A total of 51,557 COVID-19 patients in Minnesota have required hospitalization since the start of the pandemic, and 10,099 of those patients have required treatment in intensive care units.
