A Nebraska man is in custody after a traffic stop on I-90 in Austin late Monday evening resulted in nearly a pound of methamphetamine, marijuana and a firearm being discovered.
Authorities reported that 26-year old Tyler O’Brien of Omaha, Nebraska was eastbound on I-90 in the city of Austin in a 1989 Chevy Caprice when he was stopped for crossing over the fog line. O’Brien was found to have an arrest warrant out of Dakota County and a small amount of marijuana in his possession. After developing probable cause of drug sales, authorities stated that the vehicle was taken to the impound lot prior to a search warrant. Inside, approximately 369 grams, or just less than a pound of methamphetamine, 33 grams of marijuana, and a .40 caliber handgun were found.
O’Brien is being held on $500,000 bond in the Mower County jail and is facing a felony drug charge of 1st degree sale of 17 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine within a 90-day period. O’Brien’s next appearance in Mower County District Court is scheduled for Thursday, October 28th.
