New Year’s Rockin’ Eve still plans to broadcast live, despite increasing COVID cases in NYC

Skyrocketing COVID infection rates have some people in New York City re-thinking their Near Year’s Eve plans at the last minute, but ABC is still planning to go forward with Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

For now, at least.

FOX and other networks have already dropped their planned live Times Square broadcasts for this Friday night, but ABC’s longstanding New Year’s special is still ‘on’ for the broadcast’s 50th anniversary.

Deadline reports that the show will be hosted by Seacrest from Times Square, and will feature Rockin’ Eve‘s first Spanish language countdown.

Last year’s broadcast was watched by 7 million total viewers.

New York’s Mayor has said the Times Square ball drop will still happen, but with tighter restrictions and fewer people.
