Congratulations to the Austin Packers girls’ basketball team, this week’s KAUS Overby Orthodontics Prep Athletes of the Week!
The Packers, who come into Friday’s State Class AAA consolation final versus Detroit Lakes with a record of 25-6 claimed the Section 1AAA title for the second straight year with a 72-17 win over Faribault in the section quarterfinals, a 67-31 win over Byron in the semifinals and a 72-57 triumph over Stewartville in the section final last Friday night at the Rochester Civic Center Arena. Austin, who is making its sixth state tournament appearance in school history fell to top-seeded Becker in the state quarterfinals 53-48 Wednesday before rebounding in grand style Thursday with a 62-44 win over No. 4 seed Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the consolation semifinals to set up Friday’s game with Section 8AAA champion Detroit Lakes for the consolation title.
