Red Cross and Taopi Relief Fund to assist those affected by Tuesday’s storms

A local relief fund has been set up to assist residents of Taopi, Minnesota following severe weather in Mower County on Tuesday night.

Two people were reported to have suffered non-life threatening injuries in Taopi as a result of an EF-2 tornado which devastated the town of fewer than 100 residents.

Mower County Emergency Manager Amy Lammey is asking for pictures to be shared to [email protected] for damage assessment, and Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik added that the public is being asked to stay out of the area unless they have specific business or purpose to be there while crews start the recovery and cleanup process.

American Red Cross volunteers are also helping residents.

“Our hearts go out to our neighbors who were impacted by this tornado,” said Melanie Tschida, Executive Director for the American Red Cross serving Southeast Minnesota. “Because these disasters can happen anytime, anywhere, please help stay safe by following severe weather alerts and be prepared to seek safe shelter if necessary.”

Contributions to local relief fund can be made payable to Taopi Relief Fund at United Farmers State Bank (PO Box 354, Adams, MN, 55909)
