An Iowa man was killed, and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 63 near Racine in Mower County Thursday evening.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2023 Toyota Sienna being driven by 45-year old Hope Ann Doherty of Racine was traveling southbound on Highway 63 at approximately 5:53 p.m. Thursday evening when her vehicle collided with a 2016 Ford Fusion being driven by 27-year old Thresea Radney Fluteplayer of Flandreau, South Dakota, which was northbound on the highway at the time of the crash near milepost 24 in Racine Township.

A passenger in Fluteplayer’s vehicle, 34-year old Rory Derek Anderlik of Riceville, Iowa was killed in the accident, while Fluteplayer sustained life-threatening injuries, and she was transported to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for treatment.  Doherty suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident, and she was also transported to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

The State Patrol reported that the road was covered in snow and ice at the time of the accident, and they added that all parties involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts.  The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, the Grand Meadow Police and Fire Departments, Grand Meadow Ambulance, the Stewartville Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene Thursday evening.
