Spring sports for Austin High School swing into high gear this week

The spring sports season for Austin High School for 2022 will be shifting into high gear this week as the Austin Packers baseball team, under the leadership of new Head Coach Jacob Nelson will kick off their season on the road Tuesday in Mankato versus the East Cougars in a Big 9 Conference matchup, before their home opener Saturday at Dick Seltz Field at Riverland Community College versus Red Wing in a doubleheader, with the first game being a conference game starting at noon.  The Austin Packers boys track and field team, headed by new Head Coach Gabe Nelson and the girls track and field squad, coached by Nancy Jones will both open their 2022 seasons on Tuesday at a meet in Albert Lea at Jim Gustafson Field at 4:30 p.m.  Also getting their season underway Tuesday will be the Austin Packers boys’ tennis team, under the tutelage of Head Coach Jeff Nelson in a Big 9 Conference match at Winona versus the Winhawks at 4:30 p.m.

The Austin Packers girls softball team, coached by Lisa Lage will open the 2022 campaign on Saturday, April 9th in Red Wing versus the Wingers, with the first game of a doubleheader being deemed a conference game starting at noon, and also opening their seasons Saturday will be the Austin Packers boys golf team, coached by Matt Raso and the girls golf team, with new Head Coach Dave Brown at the helm will both be the The Oaks Golf Club in Hayfield along with the host Vikings, Blooming Prairie, Caledonia, Glenville/Emmons, Rochester Lourdes, Cannon Falls, GMLOK, Stewartville and LaCrescent/Hokah, with the action starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Austin Packers Adaptive Bowling Team, coached by Dan Mareel got their 2022 season underway on March 25th by hosting a meet with Cambridge/Isanti at Echo Lanes and another on March 28th versus Hayfield, and the Packers are back in action at home on Tuesday, April 19th with a meet versus Mankato.
