Charles Carr, 31, of North Carolina recently broke into a home and stole numerous items, including four military medals earned in Vietnam.

Two of the medals were Purple Hearts, and the man who earned them, Daniel Laws, has passed away.

Laws’ family was understandably upset when they realized his medals were gone.

Thankfully, police were able to connect Carr to the crime, after he traded one of the Purple Hearts for a Mountain Dew (specifically, a Mountain Dew Code Red).

The man who traded with Carr saw a story about the missing medals on TV and came forward.

Laws’ family has been able to get one of the Purple Hearts back.

At last word, Charles Carr was still on the run, and the three other stolen medals hadn’t been returned yet.
