A teenager from Texas suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle accident Thursday evening on eastbound I-90 near the exit to U.S. Highway 218 in Austin.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2018 Toyota Corolla being driven by 46-year old Genet Teketel of Austin, a 2007 Peterbuilt semi being driven by 60-year old Danny Ralph Hoffman of Worland, Wyoming and a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup being driven by 50-year old Ramon Arturo Moya of Edinburg, Texas were all eastbound on I-90 at approximately 7:18 Thursday evening when the vehicle being driven by Teketel attempted to merge into the right lane from the acceleration/deceleration lane next to the vehicle being driven by Moya. The State Patrol reported that Moya braked to avoid a collision, but his vehicle was then rear-ended by the semi being driven by Hoffman.
A 13-year old juvenile female who was a passenger in Moya’s vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident and was transported to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, while an 11-year old male juvenile who was also a passenger in the vehicle was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin with non-life threatening injuries. The State Patrol went on to report that a male infant from Austin who was a passenger in Teketel’s vehicle was listed as being uninjured, but was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin as a precaution, and they added that Teketel, a 5-year old juvenile male who was also a passenger in his vehicle, Hoffman and Moya were all uninjured.
The State Patrol indicated that all parties involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts, and Mayo Ambulance, the Austin Fire Department and the Mower County Sheriff’s Office all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene Thursday evening.
