Two people injured in head-on collision between SUV and school bus in Austin Thursday morning

Two people were injured in a head-on collision between an SUV and a school bus on West Oakland Avenue in Austin Thursday morning.

The Austin Police responded to the accident in the 1800 block of West Oakland Avenue at 8:22 a.m. Thursday morning.  Captain Todd Clennon reported that an investigation revealed an eastbound 2011 Ford Escape being driven by a 17-year old male from Austin drifted across the center line and caused a head-on collision with a westbound school bus.  Clennon stated that the school bus driver observed the Escape in her lane prior to the collision, and he added that she was able to dramatically reduce her speed almost to a stop prior to the Escape colliding with the bus.

Captain Clennon went on to state that the 17-year old male driver of the Escape was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin by private party for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and a juvenile male on the school bus sustained minor injuries to his leg and face and was not transported.

Clennon indicated that the 17-year old male driver received a citation for driving left of center, and he added that he will be recommended to the state of Minnesota for a driver evaluation.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
