A 6-year old girl from Austin was transported by air ambulance to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital for serious injuries after a utility terrain vehicle accident in Freeborn County early Monday evening.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to the accident at the intersection of County State Aid Highways 34 and 19 at approximately 5:03 p.m. Monday.  Upon arrival, the Sheriff’s Office and Mayo Ambulance personnel began rendering aid to the 6-year old female who was thrown from the UTV after the driver of the vehicle, her 12-year old brother who is also from Austin, made an abrupt correction to avoid a fence.  Authorities stated that both the driver and the juvenile female passenger were not wearing helmets or seatbelts at the time of the accident, and they added that the driver sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

The juvenile female was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin, and was later taken by air ambulance to Rochester for serious injuries.  The Sheriff’s Office stated that the juvenile’s current condition is unknown at this time.
