An Austin man who was taken into custody after being found wearing body armor and in possession of a firearm after allegedly brandishing the weapon at a residence in northwest Austin late on the morning of Friday, August 11th  is facing six different charges in Mower County District Court.

25-year old Jose Juan Alvarez-Bentzin Jr. was charged Monday with three felony counts of 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon, plus he was also charged with felonies for committing a crime while wearing or possessing a bulletproof vest, and for receiving and/or possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, plus Alvarez-Bentzin Jr. was also charged Monday with a gross misdemeanor for being ineligible to receive, ship or transport weapons.  

Bentzin Jr. is being held in the Mower County jail on $150,000 bail or bond with no conditions, and his next appearance in Mower County District Court will be a Rule 8 hearing on August 28th.
