Austin man in custody after being found wearing body armor and in possession of a firearm

An Austin man is in custody after being found wearing body armor and in possession of a firearm at a residence in northwest Austin late Friday morning.
Officers with the Austin Police Department were dispatched to a residence at 709 6th Avenue Northwest at 11:09 a.m. Friday morning concerning an incident in which a firearm had allegedly been brandished. In addition, officers were informed that the person that displayed the gun was also wearing body armor.
Responding Officers arrived by 11:11 am and detained 25-year old Jose Juan Alvarez Bentzin Jr. in the yard. Chief of Police Dave McKichan stated in a report that Alvarez-Bentzin was wearing body armor and a firearm was recovered during a search of his person. Alvarez-Bentzin was placed in the Mower County jail pending review by the Mower County Attorney’s Office as to charging determinations .
The Austin Police Department was assisted by the Mower County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of the incident Friday morning, and Chief McKichan stated that the case remains under investigation.
