An Austin man who was found to be in possession of a .22 caliber rifle with ammunition, 18.75 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop conducted by the Mower County Sheriff’s Office on April 17th has been sentenced to jail time, supervised probation, fines and fees, plus time in the sentence to service program on three different charges in Mower County District Court.

32-year old Tyler Merle Naatz was convicted and sentenced Thursday to five years of supervised probation and 40-hours in the sentence to service program for a felony charge of being a violent felon in possession of a firearm.  A 60-month prison sentence was stayed for five years if Naatz complies with the 16 different conditions of his probation, and he was also convicted and sentenced Thursday to five years of supervised probation for a felony charge of 3rd degree drugs, possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug other than heroin.  A 33-month prison sentence was stayed for five years if Naatz complies with the terms of his probation, and he was also convicted and sentenced Thursday to two years of supervised probation and $1,095 in fines and fees for a gross misdemeanor charge of 2nd degree DWI, operate a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.  Judge Kevin Siefken stayed 333 days of a 364-day jail sentence for two years if Naatz complies with the terms of his probation, and Judge Siefken also determined that Naatz will be subject to 59 days of electronic alcohol home monitoring.  

Naatz pleaded guilty to the three charges on May 17th, and a felony charge for being a violent felon in possession of firearm ammunition, a gross misdemeanor charge for driving after cancellation, inimical to public safety, and a petty misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia in the case against Naatz were dismissed with his guilty pleas.
