The Austin Packers baseball team played their first road game of the 2024 season in Winona Saturday versus the Winhawks in a Section 1AAA and Big 9 Conference matchup, and it was the Winhawks scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally for a 6-2 win.

Noah Dunlap, who was 1 for 3 in the game and Hadyn Quitmeyer, who was 1 for 2 both knocked in runs in a two-run top of the fifth inning as the Packers also used two Winhawks errors, a walk and a sacrifice bunt from Gage Helgeson to take a 2-1 lead at that point of the game.  Ethan Anderson was 1 for 3 in the game offensively for the Packers, while Isaac Osgood was 1 for 4 with a stolen base.  Osgood also pitched the first 4 and 2/3rds of an inning for the Packers Saturday, giving up the six Winona runs, all earned on six hits, striking out five and walking five.  Sophomore John Rollie came in with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and pitched the last inning and a third.

The Packers are now 1-1 on the young season, and Austin returns to action Tuesday in Owatonna versus the Huskies in the Big 9 Conference, with first pitch from Dartts Park at 5:00 p.m. that afternoon.
