Austin Packers boys’ tennis picks up first win of the season at Faribault triangular Saturday

The Austin Packers boys’ tennis team took to the road Saturday for a Big 9 Conference triangular at Faribault Saturday versus the host Falcons and Owatonna, and it was the Packers falling in their first match to the Huskies 7-0 before coming back to defeat the Falcons 6-1 for their first win of the season.

In the win over Faribault, Head Coach Jeff Anderson stated that he was proud the way his squad rallied back from the loss to Owatonna, and he added that numerous players picked up their first varsity win, including Max Larson, Cade Morrison, Eric Stencel, Michael Garry, and Thomas Garry.  At first singles, Joey Schammel of Austin downed Andrew Chou of Faribault in straight sets 6-1, 6-0, Cole Hebrink at No. 2 singles also won in straight sets against Harrison Gibbs of the Falcons 6-2, 7-5 and Max Larson of the Packers was victorious at fourth singles as he blew by Thomas Drenth of Faribault 6-0, 6-1.

Austin swept the doubles competition as the No. 1 team of Cade Morrison and Eric Stencel downed Carson Reuvers and Carter Sietsma of Faribault in a tough three-set match 4-6, 7-6 (4) and 10-7.  Michael and Thomas Garry of the Packers blanked Long Duong and Buay Lual of the Falcons at No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-0 and Marcus Castro and Quinton Grimley of Austin at third doubles were a winner via default.

Austin is now 1-4 on the season, and the Packers are back in action at the Wescott Tennis Courts Tuesday afternoon in a Big 9 match with Rochester Century, with the action set to start at 4:30 p.m.
