Austin Packers girls’ basketball team falls to strong Eden Prairie squad 65-58

The Austin Packers girls’ basketball team, after routing Winona 71-35 in a Big 9 matchup Friday night played the second game of an extremely tough back-to-back Saturday in Eden Prairie versus the Class 4A Eagles, an 18-win team out of the Lake Conference, and it was the Eagles making a seven-point halftime lead stand up the rest of the way as they downed the Packers 65-58.

Both teams rang up 33 second-half points after the Eagles led 32-25 at the half, and Cassidy Shute led both teams in scoring Saturday with 18 points, Olivia Walsh added 14 points, Reana Schmitt tallied nine points, Emma Dudycha scored eight points, Hope Dudycha added seven points and Ruby Kvam scored two points for the Packers, who saw a four-game winning streak come to an end, and they are now 19-5 overall on the season.

Austin’s game versus Rochester Mayo for tonight at Ove Berven Gym has been rescheduled to Thursday evening in Austin at 7:30 p.m., and the Packers will then wrap up the regular season at Faribault against the Falcons Friday evening.
