Austin Packers girls tennis team falls to Rochester Century 6-1 Tuesday afternoon

After a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Cannon Falls in a non-conference matchup at the Wescott Athletic Complex tennis courts Monday, the Austin Packers girls tennis team was right back into action at home Tuesday versus Rochester Century in a Big 9 Conference match, and it was the visiting Panthers coming away with a 6-1 win.

Gracie Schmitt earned the only win of the match for the Packers at No. 1 singles as she fell in the first set to Century’s Zoe Zhang 6-4, but she rallied to take the next two sets 6-4 and 10-5 for the win.  Seanna Kubas and Jenna Hetzel at No. 2 doubles for Austin battled Rachel Taunton and Ria Shah of Century for three sets, but they fell by scores of 6-1, 4-6 and 6-4.

The Packers are now off until next Tuesday, when they will travel to Albert Lea to take on the Tigers, with the action scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m. that afternoon.
