Austin Packers girls’ tennis team goes 1-1 at Waconia triagular Saturday

The Austin Packers girls’ tennis team traveled to Waconia for a triangular with the Wildcats and Jordan Saturday, and in their first match, the Packers ran into a tough Hubmen squad with a strong singles lineup and fell 6-1.
The lone win for Austin in the match came at 1st doubles as Reana Schmitt and Samantha Krueger defeated Cailin Friary and Dyllan Wellhausen of Jordan in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. The #2 doubles team for the Packers of Abby and Katie VanPelt took the first set from Jade Thach and Evy Menden of the Hubmen 6-4, but Thach and Menden rebounded to take the second set 6-3 and the third set 10-7.
Austin fared far better in their second match versus Waconia as the Packers cruised to a 6-1 victory.
Kaitlyn Meiergerd was a winner in straight sets at #2 singles over Allison Bloem of the Wildcats 6-2, 6-2, Emma Haugen of Austin swept Kate Davis of Waconia 6-2, 6-1 and Kaitlyn Riskedahl earned her first varsity win in her first varsity match at #4 singles in a tough three-set battle over Kaethe Ludford of the Wildcats 6-4 , 1-6 and 10-4 in the third set. Samantha Krueger and Reana Schmitt outdueled Ashley Bryfczinski and Avery Heyer of Waconia in three sets 6-1 , 0-6 and 10-4, Abby and Katie VanPelt at #2 doubles outlasted Brianna Bollig and Mackena Forster of the Wildcats 6-4 , 0-6 and 10-7, and Aunica Groh and Vida of the Packers downed Chayse Saunders and Anna Braun of Waconia in straight sets at #3 doubles 7-5 , 7-5.
Austin is back on the road today for a Big 9 Conference matchup with Mankato West, with the varsity match set to start at 4:45 p.m.
