The Austin Packers softball team continued a season-opening five-game homestand at the Packerdome Friday and Saturday versus NRHEG and Winona, respectively, and in Friday night’s game, 8th grade pitcher Kaydence Schaefer fired a two-hit shutout in the circle to help lead the Packers to a 4-0 win, and in Saturday’s matchup, the defending Section 1AAA champion Winhawks were victorious 10-0 in five innings.

In Friday night’s game, Austin pushed across three runs in the bottom of the third inning and one in the bottom of the fifth, and Alexis Brede was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Quinn Osgood was 1 for 3.  Schaefer did the rest in the circle for the Packers Friday night as she fanned 10, did not walk a batter and gave up only two hits to earn the win.  In Saturday afternoon’s game, Kathyrn Crouch and Peyton Squire picked up the two hits for the Packers in the five-inning shutout loss.

Austin is now 2-1 overall on the young season and 0-1 in the Big 9 Conference, and the Packers return to action at Todd Park Tuesday versus Section 1AAA rival Stewartville, with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
