Austin Packers softball team knocks off Byron 7-6 in season and home opener

The Austin Packers softball team opened the 2024 spring sports season for Austin High School at the Packerdome Tuesday with a matchup versus the Byron Bears, a Section 1AAA rival for the Packers and a perennially-strong squad out of the Hiawatha Valley League, and it was the Packers pushing across two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to score a big 7-6, come-from-behind win to open the season.

The 1-0 Packers will continue a regular season-opening five-game homestand Friday night versus NRHEG in another non-conference matchup, with first pitch at the Packerdome scheduled for 7 p.m.
