Austin Packers Track and Field Teams host triagular at Wescott Athletic Complex Monday
The Austin Packers boys and girls track teams hosted a Big 9 Conference triangular at the Wescott Athletic Complex Monday involving Owatonna and Mankato East, and in the boys competition, it was the Huskies taking first place with a score of 92, followed by Mankato East with 80 team points and Austin with 14.
High finishers for the Packers Monday included sophomores Jamal Faux and Carter Holt, who were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 meter dash with times of 11.99 and 12.10 seconds, sophomore Myles Taylor took sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.42, and junior Jackson Hilkin was fourth for Austin in the 800 meter run with a final time of 2:20.26 seconds. Sophomore Thomas Asmus took eighth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:00.15, fellow sophomore Jonas Hovland was ninth in the 3200 meter run Monday with a time of 11:32.44, and sophomore Alan Obang earned a second-place finish in 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.27 seconds, while teammate Triumph Ogbeide was eighth with a time of 18.24.
Junior Isaiah Cabeen raced to a second-place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with a final time of 43.65 seconds, Austin’s 4 x 100 meter relay team of Jamal Faux, Myles Taylor, Triumph Ogbeide and Carter Holt took first place Monday with a time of 45.51 seconds, just edging out second place Mankato East by .30 seconds, and the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Ogbeide, Holt, Taylor and Faux running the anchor leg took third with a time of 1:37.48. Austin’s 4 x 400 relay team of Isaiah Cabeen, Thomas Asmus, Jackson Hilkin and Ian Johnson were fourth Monday with a time of 3:54.05, the 4 x 800 team of Asmus, Johnson, Jonas Hovland and Hilkin also took fourth with a time of 9:39.38, and senior Elijah Kline finished ninth in the discus with a throw of 110′ 3″. Sophomore Colton Qualey cleared 9′ in the pole vault, wich was good for seventh place, Triumph Ogbeide sailed 18′ 7″ in the long jump for fourth place, and Isaiah Cabeen’s effort of 39′ 3″ in the triple jump was good for fifth place, while teammate Riley Ferguson was eighth with an effort of 36′ 1″.
In the girls competition, Mankato East took the team competition with 87 points, Owatonna was second with 81 points, while Austin was third with 18 points.
Senior Marie Tolbert took fifth in the 100 meter dash for the Packers Monday with a time of 13.91 seconds, freshman Dori Olana earned a fourth-place finish in the 800 meter run with a final time of 2:52.44, and senior Lillyan Wiese ran to a seventh-place finish in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:18.27. Junior Marissa Shute’s time of 12:30.88 was good for first place in the 3200 meter run, junior Chok Bol was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.20 seconds, while senior teammate Emily Klapperich was seventh with a time of 18.79, and Marie Tolbert’s time of 52.27 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles was good for third place, while Bol was seventh with a time of 53.87.
Austin’s 4 x 100 meter relay team of Juliette Zimmerli, Awillie Okey, Sophia Meyer and Ashley Reyes-Garcia was third Monday with a time of 56.74 seconds, the 4 x 200 relay team of Zimmerli, Okey, Kylie Crouch and Reyes-Garcia took fifth with a final time of 1:59.44, and the 4 x 400 team of Chok Bol, Marie Tolbert, Nyaguay Mar and Marissa Shute was also fifth Monday with a time of 4:37.46. Austin’s 4 x 800 relay team of Shute, Grace Vortherms, Dori Olana and Lillyan Wiese was third with a time of 11:16.95, junior Laura Bekaert was third in the shot put for the Packers Monday with an effort 32′ 11″, and she was also fourth in the discus with a throw of 95′ 1″.
Senior Aggie McKichan cleared 5 feet to take the high jump for Austin Monday, freshman Elaine Chumba sailed 29′ 3″ in the triple jump, which was good for seventh place, while fellow freshman teammate Awillie Okey jumped 29′ 2″ for eighth place.
Both squads will return to action at the Wescott Athletic Complex for a seven-team invitational Friday that will also feature Albert Lea, Mankato East, Hastings, Kasson-Mantorville, Rochester Century, Rochester John Marshalla and Rochester Mayo, with the action scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
