Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms girls’ basketball downed by Kenyon-Wanamingo 57-50 Monday evening

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms girls’ basketball team was looking for its third win in a row in Kenyon Monday evening in a Gopher Conference matchup with the Knights of Kenyon-Wanamingo, who jumped out to a 24-8 lead and answered several Blossoms runs throughout the contest to prevail 57-50.

Blooming Prairie trailed by as many as 18 with just over 6 minutes to play in the game, but the Blossoms were able to work their way back to as close as three points with a minute to go to give themselves a chance to win.  The Knights, though, were able to hold off the final BP charge of the game by coming up with two defensive stops down the stretch and doing just enough at the free throw line to seal the win.

Bobbie Bruns led the way for the Blossoms as she sunk both of BP’s 3-pointers on her way to 20 points, plus she added five assists and seven steals, Anna Pauly was also in double figures in scoring with 12 points, Addison Doocy chipped in six points, Haven Carlson added four points and three rebounds, Shawntee Snyder also scored four points and added a team-high 11 rebounds, and Melaine Winzenburg and Chloe McCarthy each tallied two points for the Blossoms, who trailed 30-17 at the half and were 10-17 from the charity stripe, while Kenyon-Wanamingo went 16-29 from the line in the game.

The Blossoms are now 8-3 in the Gopher Conference and 12-7 overall on the season, and they start a three-game homestand Thursday night versus Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, with the varisty tip at 7:15 p.m.
