The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team was back in action at the Austin Packerdome Thursday versus Gopher Conference rival Hayfield, and it was the Blossoms parlaying 11 walks and five Viking errors into eight unearned runs on their way to a 13-3, 5-inning victory.

Blooming Prairie jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second, but Hayfield rallied to tie the game at 3 with three runs in the top of the third.  After holding the Vikings scoreless in the top of the fourth, the Blossoms cracked the game open with five runs in the bottom half of the inning for an 8-3 lead, and they added five more in the bottom of the fifth to win via the 10-run rule.

Blooming Prairie posted 13 runs on five hits, two errors and eight runners left on base, while Hayfield tallied three runs on three hits, five errors and five runners left on base.  Blossoms pitcher Haven Carlson helped her own cause by going 1 for 3 with two RBI’s and three runs scored, shortstop Macy Lembke was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored, third baseman Shawntee Snyder went 1 for 3 at the plate with a run knocked in and an RBI, first baseman Lexi Steckelberg registered two RBI’s and catcher Layla Lembke also picked up an RBI and scored two runs, plus right fielder Anna Haberman and left fielder Lily Schammel were both 1 for 2 at the plate, with each scoring a run and Haberman registering an RBI, and center fielder Ella Smith picked up an RBI as well in the win.

Carlson was strong in the circle for the Blossoms as she pitched all five innings and gave up the three Hayfield runs, two earned on three hits, striking out three and walking four.

With the win, Blooming Prairie is now 1-1 on the young season and 1-0 in the Gopher Conference, and the Blossoms return to action next Tuesday, April 11th at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, with first pitch in Janesville at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
