The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team opened their 2024 campaign at home Thursday versus Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton in a Gopher Conference matchup, and although they were held to only three hits, the Blossoms were able to parlay eight Bulldog walks and five errors into 12 runs in a 12-5 win.

The Blossoms took early command of the game with five runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the second for a 7-0 lead.  JWP tallied one run in the top of the third inning to cut the Blossoms lead to 7-1, but BP added two runs of their own in the bottom of the third, plus two more in the fourth to push their lead to 11-1 on their way to the victory.

Offensively for Blooming Prairie, senior first baseman Lily Schammel helped to lead the way by going 1 for 4 with three RBI’s and a run scored, senior catcher Layla Lembke was 1 for 2 with a double and two runs scored, and senior righfielder Anna Haberman picked up the other hit for the Blossoms in two official trips to the plate with two RBI’s and a run scored, plus she added one of 10 stolen bases in the game for the club.

Senior pitcher Macy Lembke went the distance in the circle for the Blossoms to earn the win, as she gave up the five Bulldog runs, all earned, on eight hits, striking out four and walking five, plus offensively she added a pair of walks drawn, three stolen bases, an RBI and two runs scored.

The Blossoms open the season with a 1-0 record, and BP returns to action in the Gopher Conference with a game at Kenyon-Wanamingo Monday, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
