The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team was looking to keep their early season momentum going Thursday as they traveled to Medford for a Gopher Conference matchup with the Tigers, and two hits apiece from four different players, plus eight runs scored in the final two innings of the game equaled an 11-1, 6-inning win.

The game was scoreless heading into the top of the third inning when Blooming Prairie plated a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead, but the Tigers came back to score what would turn out to be their lone run of the game to cut the deficit to 2-1.  The Blossoms answered with a run of their own in the fourth inning to lead 3-1, and the club then broke the game wide open with three in the fifth for a 6-1 lead, and five more in the sixth to account for the 11-1 final.

Second baseman Rachel Winzenburg helped to lead BP’s offensive attack Thursday by going 2 for 4 with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, third baseman Shawntee Snyder was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, pitcher Macy Lembke helped her own cause by going 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI, three runs scored and three of BP’s six stolen bases in the game, catcher Layla Lembke was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and right fielder Anna Haberman went 1 for 4 in the contest with two runs knocked in.

Lembke was again strong in the circle for the Blossoms, as she gave up one run, which was unearned, on three hits, striking out seven and walking three.

Blooming Prairie is now out to a 6-0 start, and the Awesome Blossoms are back into action at home next Monday versus NRHEG in another Gopher Conference matchup, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
