A motorcyclist  from Iowa was injured attempting to avoid a collision with a semi near the southbound Interstate 35 ramp to Highway 65 in Freeborn County Saturday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2019 Kenworth semi truck with trailer being driven by 50-year old Anthony Neil Lacy was southbound on Interstate 35 at approximately 12:14 p.m. Saturday afternoon and turned left across all southbound lanes of traffic to enter the ramp to southbound Interstate 35.  The State Patrol indicated that a 2004 Harley-Davidson VRSCA being driven by 45-year old Christopher Lacarr Stamps of Mason City, Iowa, and a 2012 Harley-Davidson FLXH being driven by 21-year old Tanner William Thompson of Kanawha, Iowa were southbound to the rear of the semi, and the two Harley riders skidded and laid their motorcycles down to avoid a collision.

Thompson sustained non-life threatening injuries in the accident, and he was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Albert Lea for treatment, while Stamps and Lacy were both uninjured.  The State Patrol added that Stamps was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, while Thompson was not, and they also noted that Lacy was wearing his seatbelt.

Police and Fire Departments from Albert Lea, plus Mayo Ambulance all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene Saturday afternoon.
