Low rainfall making boat launches tough in parts of southern MN

If you’re planning to launch your boat from a public access, beware of low water levels in some areas. The DNR’s Nancy Stewart says some accesses are in tough shape.

“What happens with our boat ramps is having, you know, low water, shallow water, it reduces, like the length of the ramp, because it just becomes shorter, and then it just becomes harder to launch your boat or support — for your trailer tires,” Stewart says.

Below-average rainfall in much of the southern third of Minnesota in June and July is making boat launching and retrieval challenging at many lakes and rivers, especially in the Twin Cities metro area.
