MnDOT officials talks Highway 56 project in LeRoy, upcoming project on eastbound I-90 west of Stewartville

A reconstruction project planned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation for Highway 56 in the city of LeRoy for 2023 has been pushed back to 2024.  KAUS News spoke with Mike Dougherty, Director of Public Engagement and Communications with MnDOT District 6 in Rochester who gave the reasons for the postponement…

The project will rebuild a 1.2 mile stretch of Highway 56 through LeRoy to fix deteriorating pavement conditions, improve drainage, enhance student crosswalk safety and make pedestrian improvements to meet current accessibility standards.  The City of LeRoy will take advantage of the construction to replace aging city utilities underneath the road.  Dougherty went on to state that eastbound Interstate 90 motorists west of Stewartville will experience reduced traffic lanes, and an eastbound entrance ramp closure will take place at Olmsted County Road 6 when construction begins on April 4th for repaving and bridge pier work….
