Rose Creek man killed in motorcycle accident in rural Freeborn County Monday evening

A Rose Creek man is dead after a motorcycle accident in rural Freeborn County Monday evening.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office reported in a news release that they were notified of a motorcycle crash at approximately 6:09 p.m. Monday evening at 145th St and 890th Avenue, approximately four miles east of Myrtle.  The London First Responders were the first to arrive on scene and they confirmed that the driver, who was later identified as 71-year old Larry Kenneth Helgeson of Rose Creek, was deceased.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that Helgeson was eastbound on 145th St. approaching the curve to travel south on 890th Ave., and they stated that it appeared Helgeson was going too fast for the curve and hit the brakes before entering the curve. The motorcycle then crossed over to the westbound lane and followed the curve until it then struck the east shoulder and flipped, ejecting Helgeson.

Deputies indicated that the motorcycle came to rest in the ditch on the east side of the curve to 890th Avenue, and Helgeson was found nearby.  He was not wearing a helmet, and authorities stated in the news release that Helgeson sustained major head trauma.

London First Responders and Mayo Clinic Ambulance assisted the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office at the accident scene, and the crash is still under investigation by the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
