Two students at Owatonna High School are facing charges after an altercation over alleged racist comments on social media.

Police responded to a group of students shouting and being disruptive Monday and some refused to cooperate when staff ordered a school lockdown.

Two students were arrested and taken to Steele County juvenile detention. Charges include fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, obstructing the legal process, and fifth-degree assault.

The district is reviewing the incident which was reportedly fueled by comments white students made on social media about black students at Owatonna.
