An unnamed man in Washington state was placing aluminum cans in his fridge last Saturday, when one of them exploded.

The man was startled, and so immediately pulled a pistol out of his waistband and fired a round into the bottom of the fridge.

That alarmed neighbors, and police were called.

Authorities arrived to find the man “yelling incoherently” in a nearby alleyway.

He told the police that the people who live in the basement wanted to kill him, so he fired back in self-defense.

No one lives in a basement below the man. Police noted that, in fact, the home has no basement.

The man was arrested for second degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and discharge of a firearm.
