Austin man in custody after domestic incident Wednesday morning

An Austin man is in custody after a domestic incident at a residence on West Oakland Avenue Wednesday morning.
Austin Police officers responded to an ongoing domestic incident at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday morning at a residence in the 500 block of West Oakland Avenue. Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that initial information indicated that the suspect, later identified as 35-year old Shawn Christopher Wlaschin of Austin may have had a firearm. The possible victim was contacted and secured upon the officers’ arrival, and McKichan stated that out of an abundance of caution, the streets near the area were closed and a brief negotiation took place with Wlaschin, who surrendered to authorities at 9:25 a.m.
Wlaschin is currently being held in the Mower County jail on a probable cause domestic assault and domestic assault by strangulation arrest. Chief McKichan stated that the case will be reviewed by the Mower County Attorney’s Office for a final charging determination.
