Austin Packers boys swimming and diving team downs Albert Lea 92-62 Thursday evening to open 2022-2023 season

The Austin Packers boys swimming and diving team opened the 2022-2023 season in Albert Lea versus the Tigers in a Big 9 dual meet Thursday evening, and it was the Packers coming away with a convincing 92-62 victory.

There were high finishers aplenty for Austin Thursday night, including the 200 medley relay team of Winston Walkup, Carter Holt, Joey Hillkin and Kenny Cabeen, who took first with a time of 1:49.32, and teammates Zach Vogel, Hunter Peters, Brent Dahl and Jackson Hillkin were second with a final time of 2:06.20.  Zach Evenson and Noah Holt finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle for the Packers Thursday night with times of 2:00.01 and 2:22.04, respectively, and Winston Walkup, Lucas Meyers and Hunter Peters were 1-2-3 in the 200 individual medley with times of 2:16.18, 2:19.49 and 2:30.36.

Kenny Cabeen took first for Austin in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.31 seconds, and in 1 meter diving, junior Riley Ferguson and freshman Gage Rassmussen were 1-2 for the Packers with scores of 212.15 and 124.65, respectively.  Joey Hillkin and Lucas Meyers swept the top two spots in the 100 butterfly with times of 1:00.35 and 1:06.53, and Cabeen, Thomas Asmus and Jackson Hillkin were 1-2-3 in the 100 freestyle for Austin Thursday night with times of 52.50, 1:04.40 and 1:04.46.

Freshman Brent Dahl and sophomore Noah Holt were 1-2 for the Packers in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:33.63 and 6:34.43, respectively, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Kenny Cabeen, Joey Hillkin, Zach Evenson and Lucas Meyers were second with a final time of 1:39.04.

Austin will return to action Saturday in an invitational at Hutchinson, with the action scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
