Austin Packers cross-country teams take part in Big 9 meet in Owatonna

The Austin Packers boys and girls cross-country teams were at Brooketree Golf Course in Owatonna Tuesday for the Big 9 meet, and in the girls competition, it was the Packers finishing ninth with a total of 214 team points.  Northfield edged out Rochester Century for first place 61-62, while Mankato East was third with 91 points, follwed by the host Huskies in fourth with 131 points, Mankato West was fifth with 133 points, follwed by Faribault in sixth with 166 points, Winona was seventh with 172 points, followed by Red Wing in eighth place with 185 points then came the Packers, who were trailed by Mayo in 10th with 223 points, John Marshall in 11th with 273 points and Albert Lea in 12th with 328 points.

Marissa Shute ran the best time for Austin, as she was 14th with a time of 20:25.77, Nadia Vaughn was 21st with a time of 20:42.45, Cassidy Shute was 52nd with a final time of 22:33.13 and Kya McManus was 59th with a time of 23:03.53.

In the boys competition, Austin was 12th with 251 teams points, as they were preceded by host Owatonna in first with 38 team points, follwed by Mankato East in second with 51.  Mayo was a distant third with 136 points, followed by Mankato West in fourth with 157 points, John Marshall took fifth with 168 team points, Northfield was sixth with 173 points, followed by Winona in seventh with 183 points, Albert Lea was eighth with 219 team points, followed by Century in ninth with 225 points, Faribault was 10th with 240 points, and Red Wing was 11th with 244 points.

Thomas Herrick registered the best time for the Packers as he took 20th with a time of 17:49.93, Thomas Asmus was 51st with a time of 18:35.20, Joseph Garry took 57th with a time of 18:45.50 and Jackson Barry placed 58th for the Packers with a time of 18:45.75.

Austin returns to action on Thursday, October 28th for the Section 1AA cross-country meet at Faribault, with a start time yet to be determined.
