Austin Police respond to domestic incident Wednesday morning

Austin Police are investigating after responding to a domestic incident at a residence on West Oakland Avenue this morning.

Officers responded to an ongoing domestic incident at 8:45 a.m. this morning at a residence in the 500 block of West Oakland Avenue.  Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that initial information indicated that the suspect may have had a firearm.  The possible victim was contacted and secured upon the officers’ arrival, and McKichan stated that out of an abundance of caution, the streets near the area were closed, a brief negotiation took place with the other party involved in the incident, and Chief McKichan stated that that person was secured by 9:25 a.m.

McKichan went on to state that there may be some continued police presence in the area as Austin Police continue to investigate the incident, but he added that there is no threat to the public.  Chief McKichan stated that due to the ongoing investigation into the incident, no other information will be provided in the near term.
