Blooming Prairie softball outlasts Triton 16-14 in nine innings Tuesday

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team was looking for win number two in a row on the road at Dodge Center Tuesday against Triton, and in a wild slugfest, the Blossoms pushed across two runs in the top of the 9th to come out on top in extra innings 16-14.

BP led 3-0 at the end of a half inning, but the Cobras came roaring back with six in their half of the first and another run in the second for a 7-3 lead.  The Blossoms then came storming back into the game with six runs in the top of the 3rd to move back out in front 9-7, but the Cobras again had an answer as they tallied two runs in each the third and fourth innings to take an 11-9 lead.  BP came back yet again with four runs in the top of the 5th to move in front 13-11, but the Cobras scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game at 13 to force extra innings.  Each team scored a single run in the 8th inning before the Blossoms had the last answer with the two runs in the top of the 9th to earn the 16-14 win.

Bobbie Bruns had a monster game at the plate for Blooming Prairie as she went 5 for 7 with five singles, three RBI’s and two runs scored, pitcher Allison Krohnberg helped her own cause by going 3 for 7 with a home run, two singles, five RBI’s and two runs scored, Macy Lembke was 2 for 5 with three runs scored, Maren Forystek was 2 for 7 in the game with a homer, three RBI’s and three runs scored, Melanie Winzenburg was 2 for 5 with two singles and two runs scored, Lauren Schammel was 1 for 4 with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Rachel Winzenburg went 1 for 5 for BP with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Lexi Steckelberg was 1 for 3 with a double and Aliva Schneider was 1 for 5 with a single and a run scored as every member of Blooming Prairie’s lineup had at least one hit, and the squad piled up 18 for the game.  The Blossoms also drew eight walks in the marathon win, stole five bases and won despite committing seven errors to Triton’s five.

Allison Krohnberg earned the win in the circle for BP, giving up the 14 runs, nine earned on 16 hits, striking out four and walking four.  Blooming Prairie now sits at 4-1 on the season, and the Blossoms are back in action Thursday at Hayfield versus the Vikings in the Gopher Conference, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
