The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team, ranked No. 3 in the latest Class A poll traveled to Goodhue Monday to close out the regular season in a non-conference game with the Wildcats, and leadoff hitter Landon Meyer knocked in three runs and scored three more, plus three Athletics pitchers combined to throw a four-hit shutout in a 14-0, 6-inning, LP win.

Lyle/Pacelli scored two in the top of the first inning, two more in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and they then cracked the game wide open with a seven-run outburst in the top of the sixth.  The Athletics rapped out ten hits, led by Meyer,  who wound up going 2 for 3 with a double, three RBI’s and three runs scored, Hunter VaDeer was 2 for 3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, catcher Logyn Brooks belted out three hits in four trips to the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, Dane Schara went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Trey Anderson tallied one hit in three trips to the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, Mac Nelson went 1 for 4 with a run scored, Isaac Nelsen chipped in an RBI and a run scored, and Jake Truckenmiller and Jack Klingfus both scored a run apiece for the Athletics in the win.

Isaac Nelsen pitched the first three innings of Monday night’s game for the win as he gave up no runs on one hit, striking out six and walking two, Mac Nelsen then pitched two innings and gave up no runs on one hit, striking out two and walking none, and Jake Truckenmiller pitched one inning and gave up no runs on two hits, striking out one and walking one.

With the win, Lyle/Pacelli finishes the regular season as Southeast Conference champions and a record of 18-1, and the Athletics will start the Section 1A tournament at Dick Seltz Field at Riverland Community College in Austin Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. versus either No. 8 seed Spring Grove or No. 9 seed Wabasha/Kellogg, as those two teams will play in Spring Grove Wednesday afternoon.
